Personal brand: the key to finding your next contract
It’s a fact of life for any freelancer, contractor or self-employed business owner out there: whatever you do, ultimately you’re a sales person. Because if you don’t go out and find that next job or your newest client, you won’t last long.
But most of us didn’t go into our line of work to do sales (I know I certainly didn’t!) which is why we find it hard to get our act in gear when it comes to building our list of contacts, keeping in touch with them and getting work from them.
But what if I you had something to help you do those things without really having to try?
Well, guess what? You already do. It’s called your personal brand and the reason it’s so important boils down to one thing: before buy people before they buy what they’re selling.

The co-working event was held to mark the start of the new tax year.
The Future of Work
For most of the 20th Century we got used to the term “job for life”. It wasn’t uncommon for someone to spend their whole life with one company or organisation. You got a Gold Watch for 25 years service!
Towards the end of the century, however, things started to change. The advent of the internet and mobile communications meant that it was no longer necessary for everyone to have to commute to a central location (office) to do a job of work. It was a natural evolution then for the concept of freelancing, or self-employment, to take off.
And take off it did! In the UK now (2011) the freelance community is estimated at 1.4 million people. However, that’s nothing compared to what the experts predict will happen over the next decade.
