Personal brand: the key to finding your next contract

It’s a fact of life for any freelancer, contractor or self-employed business owner out there: whatever you do, ultimately you’re a sales person.  Because if you don’t go out and find that next job or your newest client, you won’t last long.

But most of us didn’t go into our line of work to do sales (I know I certainly didn’t!) which is why we find it hard to get our act in gear when it comes to building our list of contacts, keeping in touch with them and getting work from them.

But what if I you had something to help you do those things without really having to try?

Well, guess what?  You already do.  It’s called your personal brand and the reason it’s so important boils down to one thing:  before buy people before they buy what they’re selling.

How to Tame the Dragons

We’ve all seen Dragon’s Den. Having been both a “pitcher” and an “investor” over the years I can tell you that raising investment for your business in real life is nothing like that!

By the time a pitch is made, the investors will have already seen the business plan and forecasts and had time to pour over it. This means they’ll be even more prepared that Theo and his gang, so you’d better know your business inside out as they’ll ask some searching questions.

What stops a start-up?

Earlier this week I was talking to someone about starting up in business / working for themselves. This girl would be great, she is passionate about what she does; is a real expert in her field; she’s a great communicator / personality, and clients would love her.
